Suddenly no sound on VAIO laptop

QUESTION:

I have a Sony VAIO VGN-FZ31M laptop.

When I started it one day the sound was no longer working.

I have checked all diagnostics etc, and there are no errors reported, instead says sound is working. Windows Media Player is the only software that reports that sound can't be played due to problems with the audio unit.

Is there any way I can check if there are problems with the audio drivers, or if the problem is the audio card?

I have now reinstalled the drivers but that did not help.

Is there anything more I can do, or must it be the sound card?
(Installed is Sigma Tel High definition Audio CODEC 6.105614.0, and Windows Vista)

SOLUTION:

Try to use your headphones or earphones and check if the audio works. If not then service is needed.
